I must admit that I am a true feminist at heart, although I am only fairly young as of yet. Even though I agree with the points of view of people such as Polly, I also believe that Shakespeare's play, The Taming of the Shrew should not be condemned. If this play were to have been written in this day and age then yes, I can see what you are getting at however if you look at the context of the play, the Elizabethan period, you can see that it was not considered sexist in that time. (An excellent example of this is 'The Good and the Badde'). Rather then completely eliminating this play I feel it would be more productive if we were to instead look at it from a social perspective. A social reading will help us to learn more about the ideas and values of the society that Shakespeare and others like him grew up in. Bella.<br>
