I am in 8th grade and have just finished reading julius caesar. I also believe that brutus is the hero of this story. As was said by Antony in the end, brutus was the only conspirator that killed Caesar for the good of Rome rather than jealousy and distrust. Brutus did indeed run on his sword because he would rather die a free roman than a bondman. Although he first thought as an epicurean that it was cowardly to commit suicide but again he thought it better than seeing the tragedy that would bestow him if he allowed himself to become prisoner of Antony and Octavius. Cassius has done the same thing although he would not have done so at that time because he thought that he had sent Titinius to his death when he actually didnt. Cassius felt grief for the fact that he had supposedly killed his good soldier and he could not bear the embarrassment of being a prisoner so he commited suicide.
