Or maybe you do. But either way, this is your chance to write a poem that is inspired by your favorite historical character. Real, not imaginary. But beyond that, this is poetry, and hopefully you will also be inspired to let your imagination take reign. Or rule.Whether they are themselves inspiring the masses or whispering a soliloquy to themselves in their darkest hour, beheading the peasants or wandering as ghosts down through drafty towers, let your own eloquence shine with the crown jewels of metaphor, simile, and other shiny literary devices.

Please PM your contest entries to me. The fact of your entry should not be revealed elsewhere on the forum. The contest, which is open now, will close one month from today, March 28, 2013.

Have fun, and long live the king or queen-of poetry, that is.

Thank you, Cacian. But, is anybody interested in this?

I am interested, though unsure if I'll be able to contribute... yet another inbound academic year and about to hit hard. However, I'll see if I can make it.

There's no poll up, so I am assuming the deadline for submission has been extended. Am I right?

It has probably been extended.

I'd been wondering that myself.

Only for today. Unless there is someone out there frantically trying to finish one, then let me know. Otherwise, as a formality, the contest will close at midnight tonight (US Central Standard time) and I will put the poll up in the morning. I apologize for the slight delay. My weekend was unexpectedly busy.

No problem, Qimi! I don't think anyone was getting at you or anything - these things happen!

Thanks, Lokasenna. :) I didn't think so, but it is an indisputable fact that I was late (which is sort of par for the course, really).

Lol.... way late for the contest, but this poem seems appropriate for this thread:

How Farest Thou Nineveh ?

Your poet has left us
and I wonder as the
fickle cycle of news
has strayed from thy
embrace to wars
more fashionable and
I ponder Jonah's vine
