Moby Dick is the greatest American novel as far as I'm concerned. I have read and reread it easily half a dozen times and each time I see something new, like a Shakespearean play, not all novels achieve this level of depth though some try. Much of the writing is poetry, most all is philisophically important and challenging if you are willing to think along with the adventure. Not to mention the experimentation of the style which had to be years ahead of its time. I love literature and works that make me think as well as adventures and mysteries, anything well written is worth reading despite the genre. But of all the hundreds of novels and authors I've read only a few come close to Moby.

I fail to see its meaning has something to do with the environment. Is there any? Please show me what you think
