This book was way too wordy for me. Did Hawthorne have to describe every little detail? Cut out all of the descriptions, and the book would probably be about 20 pages. And did preteens talk like how Hawthorne portrayed them? I doubt that a mere child would have full knowledge of such florid language. I am led to believe that Mistress Hibbins was hanged for witchcraft BEFORE the plot. It's absurd that characters would be conversing with a dead person. This book was great bedtime reading because it put me to sleep. Do yourself a favor and don't read it unless you are forced to.
