I think some are suffering from a very modern term for romance. Romance in literary terms is not so lovey-dovey and definantly more dramatic and moving. Not flowers and roses. <br>This is also an intelligent romance. This is an intelligent book. These people faced scandal much in the same way we do. Hiding it. Seeking it out. Exposing it. Then blaming when we have shame ourselves. <br>I believe that the people were vile and afraid, lest someone find out their sins. <br>I LOVED this book, because it is one of the mose human book I believe I've ever read.<br><br>
