I read the Scarlet Letter for my high school. I think symbolism should not be forced, and that Hawthorne strives too much to expose symbolism that is all ready quite blatant. Aside from that, i must admit that i really liked the Scarlet Letter and i think it teaches a good lesson about guilt. Many seem to think that it is overwritten, yet i disagree. I think that instead many books are underwritten, and older classics and theatrical poetic plays are intricately and well written. I'm glad that we read this book for high school.
