Dont get me wrong, the idea and the story is a great work(why wouldnt it be, several FAMOUS movies have been successfully made after it), but its just the vocabulary. It was written around 1885, or something like that, but books that have imcomprehendable words should be adapted to the current language. It is a good book, except for that.<br>

I find it hard when classic English literature is criticised by people who seem unable to punctuate, spell or phrase sentences properly.
Is modern culture so diluted that we cannot stretch our minds enough even to understand the vocabulary of only a hundred years ago? Is is too hard a task? How do you cope reading Shakespeare, or Chaucer?
To be fair, Chaucer really IS hard work, but he was writing seven hundred years ago! RLS was writing only a hundred and twenty years ago... go on, stretch yourself and enjoy it as it was written, without instantly demanding it be updated to use modern words...
