Having gone through high school and college (an English major in both my BA and MA), I was never required to read any of Jane Austen's works. I read Sense and Sensibility because I liked the recent movie, and found the novel just dragged on and on. However I still felt obliged to read another, and was surprised to find I liked Pride and Prejudice from the start. However, I'm now on Chapter 44 and finding that, like Sense and Sensibility, it's dragging. I agree with the reviewer who wrote that it seems like Elizabeth spends half the novel in reflection. Get a move on, Lizzy! I also have to keep a list of Who is Who or else I get lost. I'm determined to finish it but doubt I will ever read another Austen. In the end, I can see how it is a classic and good writing, but wish it didn't take so many pages to get there!
