I'm in my senior year of highschool, and to complete some hard assignments I had to choose three books from a reading list. I chose Beloved, The Scarlet Letter and Great Expectations, and I am glad I did. Until this summer, I hadn't read any books of literary merit, and doing so is incredably refreashing. I admit, the books were very hard to get into, but once I did, I ended up liking them a lot. Not only was I getting broader examples of different writing styles, I felt my intellectual side being challenged, and expanding, due to the elaborate vocabulary. I think that everyone should read a few books of literary merit, not for school assignments, but for the sake of it, with an open mind. Maybe if that were done, everyone would have a greater appreciation for great writers.
