Hi,
Can anyone tell me where in the works of Mark Twain the phrase "three (negroes) sitting on the safety valve occurs?
Why? Because I am writing a piece about a miner who was killed in 1920 having been ordered to sit on the safety valve of the air receiver.
Thank You

It's in The Gilded Age: A tale of today. In chapter IV a few pages into it.

Many thanks. No wonder I couldn't find it in Life on the Mississippi. I have put a draft version at at http://www.aditnow.co.uk/community/viewtopic.aspx?t=6221
Can't immagine a more appropriate quote.
