Throughout Great expectations, the reader experiences first hand pips metamorphosis from boy to gentleman, I experienced this through way of boredom. This was part of my year 10 advanced english studies, otherwise an interesting course, however I found Jane Eyre, and Great expectations two famous members of the literary canon to be the most boring of all our course work. The story is simple, at some points ridiculous and over analysed to the point of becoming a string of emotions rather then a story.

Pip begins as a child, becomes a gentleman, experiences self gratification and finally develops into a man with strong emotional bonds to those around him. I, like pip, also metamorphosis'd, I began this book with anticipation and some excitement, I ended it with a severe hatred for all things Dickens. Unless you want the pride of knowing you've finished yet another book from the old literary canon, then my advice is to not read this book on pain of boredom.
