I was suprised to read the comments of some that believe that is was strange that Amy and Laurie married, not Jo and Laurie. Fair enough Laurie did love Jo, but Jo never fancied him more than a brother. It would be unfair for them to be involved in a relationship that did not produce love for one another. On the other hand, Amy and Laurie did exchange that kind of love needed for the marriage. As Laurie says, Jo and Amy traded places in his heart and took their rightful positions. Jo and Laurie may have had similar temprements and personalities, but they were not made for each other. As the old saying goes, opposites attracts.

I totally agree! The first time I read this book, I was only like nine and was furious that Laurie chose Jo's sister over her, but reading it again for the umpteenth time, I began to find some admirable qualities in Amy too, and realized that things were best this way.
