Louisa did not choose to write Little Women to begin with. She was asked by her publisher to write "a girl's book". She didn't know how to go about it, because as she said, she didn't like girls very much. She would have much rather written a book for boys. She used her sisters as the characters because they were the only girls she knew well. <br><br>It was written in two parts, the first part called Little Women. When hundreds of letters started coming in from fans for more about the March sisters and questions about who they would marry, she was asked to write the sequel, called Good Wives. (Today both books are published together as one volume.)<br>Louisa, who by choice remained unmarried), didn't want to marry Jo at all, but her publisher insisted that Jo had to marry. So, she said, she "wouldn't marry Jo to Laurie to please anyone", and created the character of Professor Baher. It was her little way of maintaining some control of her characters.
