Would you say he undoubtedly wants to avenge his father (but he just isn't sure about how to do so), or he subconsciously does not want to avenge his father?

Hamlet just wants to go back to Wittenberg, but out of filial duty he lets his father's spirit metaphorically and psychologically take possession of his brain. Thereafter many of Hamlet's statements are really his father's thoughts, not his own. He has "from himself been taken away." His father's ghost calls for revenge. Hamlet just wants to be free from the "voice of Denmark". Please see my new webpage, "Be All My Sins Remembered", at http://www.thyorisons.com/
