Hamlet then compares himself to the player with words that have a flat and depressing tones, in this case: ‘dull’, ‘muddy-mettled’, ‘damn defeated’ pigeon-livered’, ‘bitter’. These comparisons of words show hamlet’s deepening self-disgust for his inability to avenge his father’s death. (How do they show this?)
