Hi Ashley,

Direct or explicita characterization occurs when a character is portrayed by direct description of his outward appearance and by directly naming his human and mental qualities or abilities.

Usually, explicit and indirect characterization are mixed.

I am reading Cantebury Tales right now, and Physician seems to be explicitly characterized:
- Doctor of Physics
- He was a very good physician
- He knew the cause of every ilness
- He was careful about his diet, etc.

But as I already said, characterization is almost always a mix of direct and indirect characterization.
