book club - sense and sensibility

the time has come for book two, sense and sensibility. we had planned to read this late october (i think) but the three months allocated for persuasion were a bit long - and i think in general, three months is far too long. i don't think there will be a limit on how long we discuss this book for, once everyone tires we'll just move on to the next one, pride and prejudice.

for new comers - there are no 'rules', you can come and go at any point you want. we'll 'officially' start reading today, but discussion can begin at any point, in this thread.

I got so caught up in things going on, that I totally forgot to check to see if and when this discussion has opened up. I finished the book at the end of last month, and thus far from what I have read of Jane Austen, next to P&P it is my favorite of her works.

It was nice to read Austen again, it had been a while for me since my last book by her, and well as you can tell from the statement above I really enjoyed it. One of the things that really struck me early on in the reading of this book is the way in which it seemed to be much more openly humorous than her other works I have read. While most of her works contains a certain satire behind them, I was taken by the much more blatant comedic aspects within this work.

Oh it has been a while since I've read this one, but it's quite good. Maybe I should crack it open and go over it again.

As to the comedic aspect, I find the funniest of Austen's novels is Emma, which is also quite blatantly comedic. I wish I had something more to say about S&S, but my memory of the book is failing me :p.

Oh wow I really want to join this. My friends are gettin annoyed at my Austen rants. wow Dec. 2009... and it's July now. I was wondering what book are you guys on?
