I absolutely LOVE this book -- but I don't understand one part. When Wackford Squeers is talking to the evil stepfather before going home to Devonshire, he says that the boys must pack razors for the trip. The men share knowing smiles at this remark. What does this passage mean?

Hi Max,

It means that the boys will be there for a very long time, which makes the evil stepfather happy because he wants them out of the way for as long as possible and makes Squeers happy because he will receive payment for their lodging and "education" for a long time too. There is no reason for little boys to shave, so they will be there at least until puberty hits and they have more than just a bit of peach fuzz.

Hope this helps!
