In Cold Blood seems like the best choice, if you ask me...
That's a hard one, there three books which I would like to read:
- The life of Pi (already started it ;))
- The Cantebury Tales
- Love in the time of cholera
Unfortunately, voting on three isn't possible.
On the other hand, allthough I like reading a book this way and vote for one of these three, I don't have the time in June to read or share my opinion about the book, because of being abroard for 3,5 months by then.
So I won't vote and influence the outcome, but I've given some advice in what to choose ;)
Oh Erna, if you voted for Life of Pi you could finish it before June actually... means you wouldn't have to read anything in June ;) and only joined the conversation thread and the live chat if it shall win or you shall so desire :D
Welcome to the forums/book club
Maybe I should do that. But the chance that I can follow discussions is also small, because I'm going to Suriname (South-America) and having computers at home is less normal than it is here.
I'll see what I'm going to do, time enough left to vote :)
Thanks for your welcome!
Yep, there's almost a month left to decide what to vote for or IF to vote at all :D
You can vote (or not), read the book (or not) and join the discussion/live chat (or not) :), there's nothing you HAVE to do :)
*edit* Oh I forgot to meantion... you can also nominate (or not :D) a book... if you can get into the first ten nominations or if someone cancels theirs nomination you could get your book into the voting still :D

This month I won't mind whichever book wins the poll... They are all good books I hope to read sometime soon.
This month I may not be able to read ANY book at all :(... let alone the next month... but I still need something to read on the train so I MIGHT get to read something :p

I am still glad that the leading book is leading :D
It's still too early to be all cheery ;)

Though I never seem to keep up with you guys...never seem to really read what is meant to be read or end up reading it like a month afterwards...I do enjoy influencing the poll. :D
I voted Crime and Punishment. True, I don't have it, and I don't generally like reading books online (for reference, sometimes...that's why I find the Online Literature Network so useful...especially the forums! ;))................but all the same......I do happen to have The Idiot, would that do? :p

Another tie, I see!
*rubs hands excitedly*
Another coin toss for me?? If it is a 2+ way tie, I will be rolling the dice! :brow:
Reading Shogun might be interesting as well... I think in the beginning of 1980s, there was a TV show starring Richard Chamberlain. I remember my mother and her friends watching it addictively, reading the book and discussing it forever. :)

Papaya, you know you will give in and vote soon! :brow:
And wow! I didn't know that Shogun is 1210 pages. If it wins, we will read it in two months, I guess...

I can dream can't I?
Actually... I'd prefer Shogun to C&P anytime, lol.
At least I hope so :D
Though Love In The Time Of Cholera sounds more accesible *checks*...
HEY, don't panick, I just realized it's only the 10th

i loved Shogun. even dreamt about the main characters one night. also piqued my interest in Japan and the apanese language. :) (a friend was really impressed that i knew kinjuru! (it is forbidden).
although, to say wakarimasu ka?; kinjuru!, domo and dozo all in one sentence would be a tad odd, wouldn't it? :D

Whoohoooo!! 4-way tie! I will have to devise something really complicated to deal with this one! :D I am still hoping to have a 3 or 6-way tie to roll the dice!
Taliesin
05-14-2005, 03:55 PM
Well, you could roll a d4 or a d12 if you don't have a d4.
Or if you really are so strage a person that you only have a d6 and coins, then We'd suggest the semifinalling - make two pairs of them, toss the coin for both of them and let the winners compete with each other.
Oh, as we see The Life of Pi is winning.
But we haven't cast our vote yet so something will change probably.

Hemm can I change my vote??
Scheherazade
05-14-2005, 05:43 PM
Yep, Tal, I am one of those strange people with only d6s and coins! :D
Nightshade> I am afraid vote change is not technically possible.
Hey, not a tie anymore! :D
*sticks tongue at Scher* SO not gonna be rolling a dice :p
And all alter egos of Tal are forbidden to vote! At least not vote for something with two votes already to spoil my fun at Scher's expense! :goof:
(not being serious, of course Tal can vote for anything they like  )

Uhoh, another tie, Papaya shall have fun then :D
*edit* funny thing that both the books are 'blue' :p... so I notice really insignificant, nonsensical things :goof:

If you click on the number of people who have voted for a certain option, you should get a detailed chart showing who has voted for which book.

Crap, the two I don't want to read are C&P and Life of Pi. I guess I will have to make it a tie again!!
Scher would do the coin thingy then... just hope the gods are not in favour of C&P :D
Scheherazade
05-27-2005, 04:31 AM
I don't know about the Gods but seems like people are in favour of it...
Guess it is time for me to toddle to the library and get a copy of C&P...

We have an indulgence.
It is probably in our compulsory reading list. And we have not read it yet, so we don't have any prejudices.
We have read about 1/3 of it and we don't think we'd ever be able to finish it, puts us to sleep every other page.
Taliesin
05-31-2005, 02:09 PM
Really?
Perhaps we can quickly change our vote?
Or are we too late?
We just wanted to join the useful (the compulsory reading) with pleasurable (making you suffer).
You are WAY too late, and how nice of you to vote to make us suffer :D
