She nominates one fifth of them all.
So if it wins we have to read one fifth of them all and then discuss about it (probably why she did so.)

And now for something completely philosophical: we nominate "The Little Prince" by Antonie de Saint-Exupery.

Why 1/5? Guess I'm dull...

subterranean

...Good one Taliesin.. Don't forget, you need to divide the 1/5 again between you and your other thing..

'By the Sword' by Mercedes Lackey. Its an excellent story, set in Medieval times. It begins on the night of a wedding celebration, when the party is attacked by a gang of hired louts. The bride is kidnapped, and the men incapacitated, and the only one left capable of saving the young bride is almost as young Kerowyn, with no formal weapons training, her brothers cast away armour and her heart in her mouth.

I think this book is excellent, as Kero is no hero - she gets scared, she bleeds, she panics - yet she rises above prejudice, hatred and hardship. Throughout the course of the story, we see the progression of Kero, how she changes, how she grows. There is no glorification here - war and fighting is potrayed as what it is: pointless, destructive and deadly.

And now for something completely philosophical: we nominate "The Little Prince" by Antonie de Saint-Exupery.

you know i read this the other day and its really short, however thats not what bugged me. i dont know what it was but i really didnt buy it as a philosophical book. "when you look at the stars, laugh because they're your friends"? please.

as for the rest of it, maybe im just missing the whole thing but i didnt think it was especially original, a lot of it is recycled kiddie crap that can be read in far more interesting books like the phantom tollbooth by norton juster, the alice books by lewis carroll, and well i cant think of any more but those others are far better and more interesting than the little prince.

a good book to read that ive been reading after the little prince is called dry by augusten burroughs about the guys alcoholic problem. its really lighthearted and funny despite its serious subject matter, i read it after i read his first book running with scissors. these are both non fiction by the way but if youre interesting in reading something interesting, funny, and easy to read then give him a try

Noel,
Since we have already got 10 nominations, there won't be any need for further nominations for May, I am afraid. I.e. unless someone withdraws their nominations.

Where is the poll then?

I think that would be OK if they are part of a series etc somethingsomething
Using the right given by Scheheherehezeherahezehede (spelling the name is still difficult to us) to the Free People of the Literature Forums, We change one nominated book into two (This is probably inflation or magic).
We change our nomination into "Hyperion" and(/or) "The Fall of Hyperion" by Dan Simmons.

BTW.The other two books of the tetralogy are named "Endymion" and "The Rise of Endymion" This is not a coincidence.

I would like to nominate "Doll's House", "Ghosts", "Hedda Gabler" and "Master Builder" by Henrik Ibsen instead of 'Cholera'. Haven't read any of Ibsen's works and thought it would make an interesting read, comparing and contrasting his different plays.
