Hello ! :]
Okay, I'm a french student, and I'm learning english literature...
I need help for a question I don't understand...
I've got an extract of the beginning of the 1st chapter (line 1 to 45) of the book : Pride and Prejudice
And here's the question : Analyse the extract as the beginning of a domestic novel.

I just don't understand what's a "domestic novel" and how I could analyse it ... :/

Can anyone help me please ? (I'm not sure it's the good forum o_o)

Domestic implies that it takes place at home, I.E. in the Bennet house, in the country, etc. Now, if that is taken into consideration, try the first sentence, about how it is the occupation of every young unmarried wealthy man to seek a wife. How does that relate to the concept of a domestic novel, in contrast to the most famous novelist of that time period, the adventure/historical novelist Sir Walter Scott, whose work was designed to detach from contemporary life.

I am not going to go further than that, since I have already done my homework, yet I will say, read the book, and perhaps look into the Penguin, or Princeton lists of literary terms for a definition of said novel, so you can better understand the concept.
