I believe there is a quote somewhere in Jane Eyre where she says something like: " the shadows are as important as the light." For the life of me, I can't find it. I've searched on an online text version, but still can't find it. Does anyone:
A. know if it is, in fact, in the novel?
B. know approximately where it is?
My teacher can't find it for us either.

Thanks.

The line...
"the shadows are as important as the light"
Isn't in the Jane Eyre novel, it is in the movie version of Jane Eyre directed by Franco Zeffirelli.

The line comes from this fact of the movie:
"Zeffirelli has banished brightness and created a cold, gray world where" - Chicag Sun-Times

The line has become so intwined with the novel that many people believe it is indeed from the work of Charlotte Bronte.
