What he meant was that after the 3rd World War civilization will have been destroyed so that all any survivors would have would be sticks and stones..... not really a future I'm hoping for.

For someone with his head so often in space, Einstein was a remarkably astute fellow.

:) Thought you guys might enjoy these Einstein
quotes as well ...

"There is only one road to human greatness:
through the school of hard knocks."
Comment on W. White's article, "Why I Remain
A Negro," October 1947. Einstein Archive 59-009
__

"Fear and stupidity has always been
the basis of most human actions."
To E. Mulder, April 1954. Einstein Archive 60-609

"It would be possible to describe everything
scientifically, but it would make no sense. It
would be a description without meaning---as
if you described a Beethoven symphony as a
variation of wave pressure."
Quoted in Max Born, Physik im Wandel meiner Zeit
(Braunschweig: Viewing 1966)

I always thought it meant that we'll be around, but our civilization will indeed be wiped out, leaving us to use primitive tools to fight any further wars. I never really thought he was implying that only sticks and stones will be around afterwards.

Regardless, great quote.
