Dear Friends,

It seems like we can finish reading and discussing 'The Artist' by mid December. Would you like to read a short book till January, during the last two weeks of December (16-31)? This would also give us a chance to go back to normal monthly reading cycle by January.

If yes, please post your nominees here, till December 3rd (Friday).

I personally would like to read something different like a play. 'The Crucible' by A. Miller or Pygmalion by GB Shaw, which are both short and interesting to read. Or a play by O.Wilde?

It's really hard to choose.

Should We nominate the "Little prince" or "Lord of the Flies"?

*tosses a coin*

"Lord of the flies" it is, then.

We won't be able to start reading the new book till mid-December so maybe you can catch up by then? It is not a very long book anyway and we can still carry on with discussions on The Artist if anyone has any issues/questions to raise...

Yea..The portrait is not a thick book, but as we know..it's hard to understand the book.

And Scher, 3rd December? Don't you thin it's too fast?

Ok, anyway, i want to nominate The Odyssey by Homer, cause i want to finish this book real soon :D :D

You're with me in this, aren't you Crisaor? ;)

We can nominate till December 3rd and then vote till 15th? Hopefully those members who are interested would have enough time to nominate and vote during those days...

Well, yeah. :) But I'd still prefer that there weren't any nominations until later. I'm lagging here.

Papaya> A Christmas Carol is a brilliant idea! I am tempted now!

Maybe those of us who finish the Artist can read another short book during the Christmas holidays?? I have two weeks' holiday at the end of December and so do most students/teachers probably? :)

Jay
11-30-2004, 07:39 AM
Usually... but some students have all the exams after this holiday... mean teachers have a knack of doing that ;).
I wonder when finally I'd have the time to have enough time to read what's in the club *pouts*

Scheherazade

Good students plan ahead of time and study daily so they don't have to worry at exam times! :D :p

Jay
11-30-2004, 08:22 AM

Scheherazade
11-30-2004, 08:27 AM
Cold, dearie? Should go and see a doctor before your exams start... :D

Jay
11-30-2004, 08:39 AM
Yeah, might be a cold ;). Ugh, don't remind me doctors, I'm sure I KNOW what they would say anyway. The people have no imagination left.

Scheherazade
11-30-2004, 08:48 AM
Imagination? What? Should he say you got a bug from a purple spotted dinasour???
*blinks*

Jay
11-30-2004, 08:51 AM
No, lol, but coming up with more than one reason would be a change ;)
Something's got into your eye? :p
*edit* ahem, just hijacked your thread

Scheherazade

Typical student! Distracting not to read books! ;)

Jay
11-30-2004, 09:03 AM
HEY! That's not fair! *pouts*

Scheherazade
11-30-2004, 09:06 AM
Fair is for tourists! ;)

Jay
11-30-2004, 09:08 AM
And students ;)

Scheherazade
11-30-2004, 09:12 AM
Maybe for students tourists... or is it tourist student???

Jay
11-30-2004, 09:13 AM
Depends ;)
This one is a thread I would prefer not to hijack :(, can't those posts get deleted?

Stanislaw

alas the gateway has been opened and only two hold the key to seel it.

tourist student = exchange student, lol

Also What if we created a christmass story list, university studs, get about 4 weeks, schoolies get about 2, so I think there would be ample time.

mine too (the bracket is to lengthen the message to more than 10 characters)
actually the prev quote adds to the 10 characters.

Expand and discuss the importance of above statement giving particular references to the related material.

(interesting, tell me more... I am listening)

Stanislaw

What if we compiled a list of short christmass stories, some scifi ones, some traditional ones, and discussed the differences and similarities in regards to their connection with the subject matter: christmass.

Scheherazade
11-30-2004, 12:15 PM
me likey...

Stanislaw
11-30-2004, 12:16 PM
you likely... compiling the list?

Scheherazade
11-30-2004, 12:20 PM
not that much likey ;)

On a serious note, we can start another thread (we are like hopeless bureaucrats) and maybe ask for some suggestions...

Stanislaw
11-30-2004, 12:22 PM
What if one was to start a christmass short story compilation thread...and members could post their favourite christmass stories, and then the ten most popular would be chosen, a multiple pole would be created for fair voting.

Scheherazade
11-30-2004, 12:31 PM
Haha! One Pole is enough in this forum as it is I think... We dont want multiple Poles ;)

So do we read 10 stories altogether?

Of course we need to decide how short/long the stories should be... Do you count A Christams Carol a novella or a story?

Bongitybongbong
11-30-2004, 04:41 PM
We've only got about 3 or 4 days left so I'll get all of the nominies which are in no specific order that matters:
Pygmalion
The Crucible
Lord of the Flies
Portrait
Interpreter of Maladies
The Odyssey
The Tell Tale Heart
The Oblong Box
A Christmas Carol
The History of Ibotics
