Hey guys, I'm new here, wondering if any help is available

I need to write about how the Merchant of Venice is read in a 21st century context, i also need to

Examine how discourses shape and are shaped by language choices. and

Evaluate how cultural assumptions, values and beliefs underpin texts.

ANY help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks in advance guys,

Rob

For instance, look at the sympathetic portrayal of Shylock in contemporary productions, relative to pre-world war 2 productions. Or for instance, the heroism portrayed on Jessica, verses the religiously biased portrayals before, verses the (I would argue) intended vileness Shakespeare put into the character. Or For homosexual stresses that are being played upon in modern times, with the emergence of Queer Theory criticism.

Having had the Holocaust, modern reading has focused on the persecution of the Jews much more.
