so my stupid english teacher is making me write a term paper about the great gatsby being an american classic or not. any suggestions on what side to be on?

On the American classic side. It clearly has the reputation, so where is the argument?

Bore bore bore bore bore. Not a fan. I would define what a classic is and then show where Gatsby fails. To me Moby Dick is the classic. Gatsby is watered down soap opera. P.S. Don't overly impressed with Hamlet either. MacBeth is the one!!

I've got an idea: Read, research, think, write. After you've done that, come back with what you have and ask us to look over it, so we might help you improve what you have done.

Oh and I wouldn't call anyone stupid unless you can do the steps I suggested above, as I sense irony toward your post concerning that.

As and English teacher, I would watch what you say about us. Try researching the topic a little first and find an arguement about each side, then ask us again.
