Hi, I'm looking for a quote to close an essay on why leaving your mark in life is unimportant and silly, because life is to short. Could anyone help me? I've been looking for quite some time and am having some problems. Thankyou ever so much.

Try looking up Ecclesiasties, there might be something for you there. It is the rantings of a depressed old king in the Bible.

It opens with "Meaningless, meaningless! Everything is meaningless!"

The posted link is the first chapter, try reading the whole book, its not long, 7 pages I think.

I also remembered another Bible verse, if your not too opposed to quoting it, and this is in Job 1:21

"Naked I came from my mother's womb,
and naked I will depart."

Try the Razor's Edge or The Great Gatsby.

Try "The Wall" by Jean Paul Sartre.
If memory serves the last line is, "I laugh until I cried...."

( If you are prone to depression, give it a miss.)

SOmething from Matthew, i forgot, but sounds more or less like this " What's good is for man to own the entire world but loose his soul?" ...

I think you should look in "Faust" by Goethe in the place, where Faust has just died and where Mefisto speaks: "Was soll uns denn das ew'ge Schaffen! Geschaffenes zu nichts hinwegzuraffen."

Life's but a walking shadow, a poor player
That struts and frets his hour upon the stage
And then is heard no more: it is a tale
Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury,
Signifying nothing.

Candide by Molière (French play) says something along the lines that he's going to just tend to his garden.

From a song by the Vandals entitled Flowers are Pretty:
"I heard that life is a wheel and you cant make it stop, if you try it'll flatten your head"
