She sat at her computer. The only light being from the screen itself and the small reading lamp that hung next to it so that she could see to type. The house was silent aside from the cats wandering about looking for a bit of trouble amongst themselves. The kids having long been asleep in bed and the baby sleeping peacefully in her swing beside her. Her husband was working late tonight so she had this time to herself. Except this time it was different. Instead of playing online games as usual, she was waiting.....waiting for someone she could trust, someone she could tell. But the screen remained silent to her, and her friend did not appear.
Leaving the computer on she resolutely set about the task of packing up the few items that meant something to her, not much really.....a few pictures, the small mug that her son had made at bible camp this week and a few other odds and ends. Then came the somewhat bigger task of getting a few things that they would need. A few changes of clothes, diapers, cat food. It wasn't much....really....just a few things.
She checked the computer once again....nothing.....it would be almost 7:30 in the morning there, very unlikely that her friend would come online, but she wouldn't give up hope, not yet... so she went on about her business stopping only briefly to change and nurse the baby then continued on until she was satisfied that she had forgotten nothing. She of course wished that she could take all of her things but then... they were only material things.
Back to check the computer. Again nothing. She had nothing left to do but wait now. Wait until her husband came home so she could tell him. How he would take it was of great concern. Would he even believe her? If not she would simply have to prove it to him. Again...how would he take it? There was a small fear that he would have a heart attack, he was a bit of a hypochondriac, but still, one couldn't be certain.

The silence was deafening....the cats had settled...... and time had never moved so slowly before.

The opening of the door was what woke her. Looking at the clock she could see that it was quite late, still, she had no idea how to tell him. He was work weary having pulled a double and looked in no mood for anything more then sleep, however sleep was the last thing that was going to happen for them this night. After briefly discussing his day which they always did, she asked him if there wasn't more to life then this that he craved, adventure, excitement, challenges. He was tired and wanted to go to bed, but she knew that it had to be tonight or never. So taking a chance she told him that there was something very important that she had discovered today and that he needed to see it. After much coercing he was persuaded to venture outback and down the slight hill into the small field hidden from the neighbors which were little more then a quarter mile away. There was a slight breeze which she was thankful about for it kept the mosquitoes at bay. Walking in the darkness wi only the flashlight for light, the night sky covered in thick cloud cover hid the moon well. She could feel his bewilderment, almost a tension in the air around them as they continued to walk in silence.
Stopping at the bottom of the small hill, she looked up, then at him. He stood waiting...expectantly for her to reveal whatever it was so that he could go back and sleep.
A night bird proclaimed it's territory and that sound she knew she would miss. She bent and picked up a small stone, looked up and threw it. It sailed in the air smoothly, silently... then banged.
The silence was deafening, "Why wouldn't he say anything?" He just stood there looking at her.
Her heart felt like it was about to thump out of her chest, she was sweating profusely despite the cool breeze. Taking a deep breath she did it again, threw another rock and this time got a reaction. She closed her eyes and not knowingly held her breath. A murmur, almost inaudible came from her partner, her lover, her friend for life she hoped. Then louder..."What the ****".........
She said something he couldn't understand nor could she, she was going on instinct, she just knew that somehow to truly show him what she had to, they had to go in and so she said the words that opened up the door. High above them by 20 feet or so, a faint light from beyond a door that wasn't there minutes no seconds ago shone out into the night. Silently a thin staircase barely thicker then paper came out of the light, down to where they stood. She resolutely and he dumbfounded.
Taking his hand she led him upwards into the light.

Behind them the door just as silently shut and before them was a small room void of much other then several panels, three chairs and a this rail that went around the whole back of the room where they stood. Behind that rail was a single closed door. Upon the completion of the doors closing the room lightened up significantly and he was able to see much more. It was a control room, of a ship and he had to sit down quickly. She knew he would either come wi her or stay, and what of their children together? She had to convince him to join her, so she suggested they go back to the house where the kids were alone, and she would explain everything as best she could.

His face was ashen and there was definitely not going to be any sleep for this man tonight. He watched her as she went downstairs and checked on the boys then back up to see to their baby girl, three months old now. He hadn't spoken since they left the ship but waited for her to "explain". How the hell could she "explain THAT" he wondered. He stared at her as she looked at the computer screen and sighed deeply, then she sat down and began.

After hearing her incredulous tale which was really nothing more then her waking up this morning wi a "knowing" of sorts, seemingly of a destiny that she had just found out was to be hers, or theirs if he understood her right. She wanted him, their children, his parents and a few others to board that ship out there, board it and go to God knows where because she says......life will be better where they are going. Does she know where they are going? No...she only knows bits and pieces like.......how to fly that ship. "How does one suddenly wake up one morning, having lived her WHOLE life here, on Earth, along wi everyone else, simply wake up, knowing there's a flying saucer, spaceship, whatever you want to call it sitting outside your door waiting to take you away, and you KNOW HOW TO FLY IT?
He was having trouble wi this she could see, but she had told him the truth, told him all that she really knew. They were to board the ship if they so chose, gather a few personal belongings, try to bring their friends and families. There was room, sitting room mind you for approximately, 35 or 40 individuals, they could bring pets, food was provided. They were to fly to a prearranged place and then in secret board another larger ship that would take them away. She somehow knew how to fly this one, more and more pieces were coming to her now. Flashes of a place quite like here, home....earth kept coming to her, the same but somehow not the same. All her life she had felt .....different somehow. Always knew things before they happened. Was able to answer questions before they were asked which can cause some disturbing reactions if done too frequently she had found out. Dreams she had, now seemed to make sense. Now she knew why.....somewhere in her ancestry they had come here.....to Earth and made a home for themselves. Were they human? Was she human? Yes she decided, she was. Certainly her children were, which brought her back to the present.
"Will you come?" she asked him. He turned from her, gathered the baby in his arms, the baby bottle and a diaper. Wi that she laughed. He ALWAYS brought a diaper, even when she had forgotten, he always had one. She went and gathered the other children, having put the cats in their carry cages earlier and set them in the wagon out back, they were ready to go. At the door she paused and went back to the computer, typed in "I wrote my story" and pushed send.
Shutting the door behind them for the last time, they walked down the slight hill outback, and started their journey home.
