The First Third was another good one. This was the only book ever written by Neal Cassidy. He relates his childhood memories about life in the bowries and skid row slums of Denver with his drunken but kind hearted father. I started reading Henry Miller after Jack, and would also wholeheartedely suggest him to you if you like Jack's stuff. Nexus, Plexus and Sexus (a trilogy), Tropic of Cancer, Tropic of Capricorn and The Colossus of Marousai were all great. Miller had a similiar kind of free wheeling, talking your ear off in a bar kind of tone--and his novels were diatribes of that same kind of life he lived. One of the best endorsements of Jack I ever heard was in a movie where a character said, "Kerouac doesn't have to kill a bull to have something to write about. He is out there living, burning, grooving on LIFE, man!!!"
