Can anyone recommend other good books with Sherlock Holmes in them? (Not the ones with a bad detective who happens to be named "Sherlock"--but with the "real" Holmes.)

I've already loved:
The Seven Per-Cent Solution by Nicholas Meyer
Sherlock in Love by Sena Jeter Naslund
The Beekeeper's Apprentice by Laurie R. King

If there are any I've missed, do let me know. Thanks.

Hey Literary Cat,

you should try Michael Chabon's "The Final Solution". Nicholas Meyer has also written 2 more Sherlock Holmes after "The Seven-percent solution" but I can't remember the titles.

Caleb Carr, the author of the brilliant "The Alienist" also wrote "The Italian Secretary" a few years ago at the request of the Sherlock Holmes society or other. It's not that good however.

Good reading.

If you like holmes and want to dig into the history of it then try:

Close to Holmes
http://www.mxpublishing.co.uk/engine/shop/product/9781904312505/Close+To+Holmes

which tracks the London locations featured in the Holmes novels and also

Eliminate the Impossible
http://www.mxpublishing.co.uk/engine/shop/product/9781904312314/Eliminate+the+Impossible

which is an overview of all of the Holmes stories and considering your opinions of some of them you may like Duncan's very frank assessment of them.

The other similar writer - and in fact the collaborator on Hound of the Baskervilles is Bertram Fletcher Robinson. Very similar writing style and you can unearth some of his short stories which have been lost to the world for over 100 years in the book

Aside Arthur Conan Doyle

Enjoy.

You might like to try Alan Moore's graphic novel "The League of Extraordinary Gentleman" for something different. Skip the crappy movie, though.

Have you already read all of Doyle's stories of Holmes? Hound of the Baskervilles is great. You just can't beat the originals

Sherlock Holmes of Baker Street by William S. Baring-Gould

From the inner flap:
While the writings of Dr. Watson helped millions learn of the exciting exploits of Sherlock Holmes, very little was known about Holmes himself. His logic, power of observation and ability to reveal the most befuddling situations as elementary are legendary. Here is the definitive account of what went on in Holmes' life before he bacame a detective, between cases and after his career ended.

The Oriental Casebook of Sherlock Holmes [Nine adventures from the lost years] by Ted Riccardi

Have you read the rest of Laurie King's? Some are better than others, but in general, good.
