Following the discussion in the Superman or Batman??? (http://www.online-literature.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4138) thread, I wonder what the gender distribution in the forum is...

Yorkie
03-21-2005, 09:04 AM
Even of the regular contributers, I haven't managed to work out who is male and who is female!

Jay
03-21-2005, 09:05 AM
Ask and you shall receive an answer... :p

Scheherazade
03-21-2005, 09:13 AM
Maybe this poll would help remove some of the mystery at least :)

Yorkie
03-21-2005, 09:19 AM
Scheherazade, I had you down correct, but Jay - I thought you were male! :eek2:

Jay
03-21-2005, 09:22 AM
Join the club, Yorkie :D
Why did you think so? Was it the name?

Scheherazade
03-21-2005, 09:27 AM
My avatar is a great give-away, I guess :D

I thought you were male, Yorkie!

Jay
03-21-2005, 09:39 AM
Hey, my avatar... she's a female as well, that blue lass on the avy and still I was considered male.

I thought Yorkie was a female, not sure why as I don't really remember any post of hers other than this thread... but from her first post in this thread I guessed she's a she... don't ask :D

Scheherazade
03-21-2005, 09:44 AM
don't ask :D
Never intended to! :D

Jay

Something about 'breaking wind' was it? comes to mind... talk about hijacking your thread

Scheherazade
03-21-2005, 10:17 AM
And I don't intend to inquire about the connection there either! :D

Jay

SMART move ;)

mono

I have the worst intuition with this guess, I think.
While first joining the forum, I knew Scheherazade and subterranean were females, though I know not why; Jay, I thought you male, perhaps with 'Jay' being a more masculine name here in the U.S. Others I guessed quite well, except with the newer members, who confuse me.
Thinking of which, we all know Admin is male, but what about Logos? :D

baddad

My screen name is not meant to be a facade and my gender is easily discerned.....BUT, ....

...The tone of a post can fool a person into genderizing the poster. Their were many posts by a certain person who shall remain unnamed, that I found sensitive, caring, rational, informed and sometimes self depracating, not the least bit egocentric......and I ASSUMED.......these posts were written by a woman, as these are the traits often identified as feminine.......and I find I am wrong............and happily so........

I love the fact that men and women are evolving socially at such a quick pace. IT is only a few decades since women couldn't vote, and men were mostly neanderthalic.....and society was okay with that.......

Scheherazade
03-22-2005, 02:43 AM
Because the society was made of by the said men and women...

Stanislaw
03-22-2005, 11:38 AM

I love that, I have "manlike" writing. Hmmmmmm...it's a good thing people think we're of the opposite gender only when we write and not when they see us. So far, for me anyways.

baddad

* Legal Waiver*

" BALANCE " = to be in equilibrium, which I am implying that most minds on this forum (luckily so ) are not in a complete state of. I mean to imply no other interpretation....

Scheherazade
03-25-2005, 04:52 AM
*Legal Waiver*

The earlier mention of 'balance' by myself within this thread refers only to the equal numbers of male and female members of the Forum who replied to the Poll.

I do not wish to make any comments or spread any rumours regarding the mental and emotional state of the said members -neither now nor in future- although I reserve the right to pass judgements privately. :D

lhaeber
03-25-2005, 04:01 PM
Good judgement comes from experience. Experience comes from bad judgement.

Didn't mean to spark defensive maneuvering (sp?)...obviously my efforts towards humour need a little reviewing before I type.
I'll be okay though, 'cause you can't keep a good man down.

Mono, dearest. I have not yet met a girl as femme-tastic as you. You possess the qualities of extreme compassion, kindness, and generosity.
Shy and blushing easily, you are the anti-alpha male.

Everyone thinks Jay is a guy at first, until you hear her crooning over a 'sweet kitty' or somthing rediculous like that  :D. I also thought Sub was a guy back in the day (that is I used to think she is, not I think she used to be :D), but I can't believe that no one ever thought of doing a poll before now. I vaugely remember someone doing a thread, but not a poll.

Jay
03-30-2005, 11:27 AM
Hey Kik, I do not croon over kitties, I merely state the fact that Crisaor's avy is a cute little kitty... AH, ok, I gotcha now ;)

Why does it matter whether we are male or female in our world we should be who we are and hope for the best of others.

Jay

It doesn't matter in the sense that people here would be dying to know, it's just... interesting I guess. Welcome on board btw

Yes, Kilted exile is male.
The only other time I can recall that anyone confused me for a girl is when I was about 2 and this shopowner offered my mother a bangle "for her pretty daughter" - At this point in time my hair was kinda long & curly.

Er, count me in...

At first I thought sub was a male too...and Taliesin a girl. I don0t think I've thought of Jay as a male, actually I've happened to think that back in the eaaarrrrrly days, she sounded so different from now, much less witty, more like a goood niiiiiice giiiiirl... Well I'm glad she turned out to be a powerful one!
(not sure you get me here, I mean she seemed more 'quiet' while she is a real vulcano of ideas...)
(still hoping Jay doesn't get offended at what I'm trying to say...)

I like it when people get me wrong, I feel mysterious... ;) When I was like 3 years old everybody thought I was a boy cos I had short short hair.
Oh now when I was back from Hungary a guy at Uni told me I am more feminine than when I left... :goof: I don't dare imagine how I was before then, as I certainly haven't changed any of my habits in dressing and such...

They also filmed X-files here, used to follow the writers around once I identified who they were and that paid off, learned sooo much;
1. drink as much coffee as possible, americano, to stimulate brainwave activity
2. scratch whereever and whenever, in front of whoever, to stimulate blood circulation
3. stare, void of reasoning, into the sky to initiate thought processes related to who/what is out there
4. raise one eyebrow and purse lips when listening to admiring fans talk about how well you write so as to appear as a benevolent contributor to the arts and not a flat, listless, narrowminded studio resource

Yes, I used the word thingamyjig. I quite commonly use words like that due to my limited vocabulary (well not words like thingamyjig, the usual words wouldn't get past the filter
On a slightly serious note (well as serious as I get anyway  ) if my friends knew I posted on a literature forum, I'd never hear the end of it. I am currently taking enough jokes about taking a course in Understanding Art. I'm just glad they dont know about my dancing lessons as a child.
The majority of this weekend was spent in the mosh pit, beating the daylights out of people. Leg currently has a welt the size of a watermelon. Which adds to the image my physical appearance portrays.
Thats the funny thing, about appearances, I look like I am a hellraiser (6'2", 230lbs) but once peple get to know me they realise that it's pretty much all an act. I am in fact a huge teddybear.
I suppose however my hothead top, and the fact that I showed up for my first day at college with my hand in a cast, didnt help matters any.

*Ok this is less gibberish now, but still pretty much nonsense.*

I get the same thing, over and over, people say,
after reading the things I tap out, they thought I was male....
Even the intro I put on this site.
It's Ok...I write men well...so it helps.
I met my husband on a dating web site,
he thought I was pulling his leg when I agreed
to meet him for the first date at a bowling ally.
We met, all went well, and on our wedding day,
he was scheduled to play in a baseball tourny...
I told him that was cool, we'll just clean up after,
then get hitched...should have seen the look on his
face...Priceless.

You should see the looks I get when I tell people that they're actually good pieces of writing. The new film was released on Feb 9th(in Canada at least); I can't wait to go see it!
