Don t know if this is the right place to ask this:

Im looking for decent sized passages of roughly 1000 words, even excerpts will do, to make my own comprehensions for my class. Non fiction is preferred, though fiction will do.

I used to use books from the local British Council Library, but when that got bombed , it wasn t opened again. Buying books, even bargain ones is way too expensive for just a 100 line passage!

Im teaching final year O level students so the passages need to be basically unabridged and ordinary-ie not specially made or altered.

Thanks.

humm well if you look on the main section youve got all the books Admins added, the only thing is the lang changes in some of them, and they are not really English as a second langgue ( Im assuming thats the IGCSE your teaching? although I didnt you could do it in 2 years) material.

I think it is GCE.

Giving students O Level's past papers would be the best thing to do. Check out in a book-store nearby, they might be available over there.

Otherwise, there are always some books made on the pattern of GCE and GCSE examinations. Very neat books, if you ask my opinion.

Hello Anthony

I'm not exactly sure what you're looking for? but the the site does have fiction and non by numerous authors:
http://www.online-literature.com/author_index.php

For instance Elizabeth Gaskell wrote a biography of Emily Bronte:

and Charles Dickens wrote a number of essays and sketches:

Yes it is the (old) GCE O level English Language.

I ve practically exhausted the O level past papers, and I find custom made passages/questions really work wonders.

Thanks for the replies.
