hi i was wondering if anyone knew the crucial points in chapter 1 of great expectations.
i have read the extract given to me by my teacher but i am not sure of the crucial points that happen.
help needed if you know anything

All depends on what you mean by "crucial points." The Chapter is very short:

-we learn that Pip is an orphan which leads him to wonder about the "identity of things."

-the marshland is introduced which figures importantly in the novel much later as well as in the first section.

-Magwitch, who is bound closely to Pips life and "Great Expectations' appears.

-the opening scene is terrifying! and dramatic-try reading it out to yourself!

-it has a number of symbolis suggestions: Pip is literally and figuratively turned upside down by what happens that fateful day in the marshes.
he is at this point no more than a "bundle of shivers".
