Probably not as Tolkien's books are DEFINATELY still under copywrite. Do you see how commercialized they are right now??? Its unreal!!!

Yeah, you need to wait like years ahead. I just borrowed the novels and I really hate how the local publishers translated the original ones.

decades. The US Congress has repeatedly been creating copyright extension acts so that things like Mickey Mouse do not go out of copyright.

If they stop doing this one day then LOTR will be in the public domain, maybe around 2050, if they keep doing this... well.... it'll be awhile.

Laws in other parts of the world (Australia for instance) have shorter durations.
