im doing an essay about this novel and can someone please tell me one of the conventions that is shown in the first few chapters of the novel? one i already have is that pip is brought up by hand and children in the 19th century were to be seen and not heard.

hey I got your email! have you by any chance started your essay yet? if not, try lisitng some of the themes first. for example, characters vs characters (emotion vs lack of emotion) and symbolism (light vs. dark). Reread the chapters and try to find the themes. List them, and work on from there! if you have any questions, just email me!
