Hello, Ser, welcome to the forum.
I did a bit of research, as I do not recall coming across that fragmented sentence, and found that some kind of district in England exists called 'South Downs.' Of course, I have never visited anywhere in the United Kingdom, I merely found it on a map.
Just out of curiosity, from what book did you read this?

Hello,
I realize this was posted months ago, but was wondering if you could offer any insight regarding exactly what's happening in A Haunted House. I'm doing a research project with that as the assigned piece to analyze and I can't find much information on it at all. Is it a short story? Just an excerpt? In fact, what is it saying in the most literal sense? I have no clue what or where the Downs are, do you know what wooden pigeons are? If you don't mind, email me at [email protected], becase I doubt I'll remember to check the board. I stumbled upon it on accident. Thanks.
