I think that Mr Bennet kept his visit to Bingley a secret, because he wanted to ,,annoy'' his wife. He probably knew that she would come to tell him the news of Mr. Bingley's arrival and that's why he wanted to make from his visit something like a game, in which, at the end of it, to reveal his visit.
