In the light of the unforeseen popularity of the competition, we have decided to have the first selection in May.

Please vote for the story you like best and the winner will be take part in the final vote at the end of the year. Discussion of the stories are not allowed not to influence the outcome of the poll.

If those of you who have submitted a short story have any questions, you can email us at [email protected] instead of asking them on here!

Please note that the authors agree to keep their identities secret when they enter the competition. Those who breach this rule will be disqualified automatically.

Here are the stories:

I wonder if a secret ballot might be more productive?

While I see your point, chmpman, open ballot gives us a better chance to deal with possible poll rigging attempts - however unlikely they might be on our Forum.

This is not a popularity contest. I believe our members understand this and will vote for the stories themselves rather than their writers.

Let the best story win! :)

Yuppers, I want to read them all at once but my mother is calling me. Seems like, I have to go before she come and shut down the computer by herself. Why do mothers expect you to study all the day? *stupid smile*

I've got loads on - but I'd like a look when I get chance - when do I have to vote ?

When can we submit our stories again? In the unlikely event that I pull me finger out.

The poll will close on May 31st (you should be able to see it on top of the poll).

You can submit your stories for June by the end of May.

Every story is good in some or other way.

What a pity, we can't vote for more than one. *smiles sadly*

Wow! All of these stories were just amazing! I'm with Pensive... if only we could vote for more than one...

i liked all of them, too.. they're all so different in style and theme, so it's very difficult to decide...

I must admit I voted by gut reaction, not by any sophisticated standards of lit criticism...

Aaarrgghh....there really is some good work here, and not just in creativity, but in style and use of English as well...erg, I want to vote for more than one. C'est la vi. I can't help but smile at the fact that I can tell who's writing from England...or is it Britain? Both? Sorry, ignorant American here...what is it anyway? :S

I need a few minutes to vote...

Come on, folks, we need more voters!

Can we also do critiques once the voting's over?

Come on, folks, we need more voters!Agreed! We do need more votes!

Can we also do critiques once the voting's over? This section of the Forum is for the competition only. It is up to the individual writers to post their stories in the General Writing section should they want to hear others' opinions (not the winner, of course, as they will have to keep their identity hidden till the finals).

I don't think it is fair to comment on the stories if the writers do not ask for it by posting them.

Mm, I suppose that's true.

these stories are amazing. They gripped me, I was so torn, but I confess I voted for the one that grabbed me from the first sentence and didn't let go until the last one regardless of the perfection of the structure and all that jazz.
whoever is chosen, all of the writers are fabulous and deserve accolades.

Question: this being only my 57th post, am I allowed to vote? In the original rules, 100 posts was the minimum, but couldn't we work out some credit thing, or a payment plan, like 15 posts per month for the next 3 months or something :D . But anyways, my computer is giving me the option of voting, and I'm being tempted, so please let me know if I'm allowed to vote. Thanks.

Yeah...don't know if I'll make it by the time the polls close either...I'd hate to just start posting meaningless crap or responding to stuff I don't really care about...so I guess if anything my vote can be discounted?

I will try, though. At least I work mornings in the Writing Center of my school where I have internet access :)

but the point, dear friends is that it is still May, and so I can still vote.

RobinHood3000
05-30-2006, 06:02 AM
Indeed, it IS May, but are there enough people remaining who wish to vote to change the apparent outcome? It looks like we may already have a winner.

Day and a half...
