I am looking for the quote where MArlow says that he detests lies. DOes anyone know around which part of the book this can be found? I have the story in an anthology so page numbers are not helping me...I need to know which section and around what part of the story. Thanks so much!

“You know I hate, detest, and can't bear a lie, not because I am straighter than the rest of us, but simply because it appalls me. There is a taint of death, a flavour of mortality in lies-- which is exactly what I hate and detest in the world-- what I want to forget.”

It’s in Part One of the online searchable text held here. To find it, type “can’t bear”. For some reason I couldn't get it to show with 'detest' or 'lie'.

I think you're talking about when Marlow is speaking with the brickmaker and lets him believe he has power in Europe when he doesn't. He says there that he detests lies again...
