Beatrix Potter

A little off-topic I know, but am I allowed to paint Beatrix Potter images or am I restricted from doing so by copyright?

I would like to paint some images for a local (strictly non-commercial) exhibition but I don't want to infringe copyright.

Any information appreciated.

I'm not really sure what you mean by 'painting Beatrix Potter images'. I'm not familiar with her and therefore might sound rather funny ;)
Do you mean paining images of her? Or painting (copying) images she's painted/drawn/photographed...? I'm not an admin but I asked google ;) and I found a site (http://painting.about.com/library/blpaint/blcopyrightfaq.htm) that might be of some use to you.
