Inspired by a recent post, here is another game:

Which literary characters do you think our members would fit into?

As always, please keep in mind that this is a game and it should be played in that spirit!

Here we go:

The Unnamable: Professor Higgins from Pygmalion (on a good day!) - Sorry but no Mr Darcy here!

Taliesin: Dill from To Kill a Mockingbird

Papayahed: The bounty hunter Stephanie Plum from Stephanie Plum Series by Janet Evanovich

Scheherazade--Long John Silver from Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson; essentially honest, but not above a little (or a lot of) treason now and again...

The Unnamable: Professor Higgins from Pygmalion (on a good day!) - Sorry but no Mr Darcy here!
You must learn to distinguish between my persona here on the Forum and the ‘real’ me. Darcy is reserved for the company of women. I break them up like meringues!
I would have thought Timon of Athens would be a better choice but I’ll take Henry Higgins. He does, however, lack my rudeness.

You must learn to distinguish between my persona here on the Forum and the ‘real’ me. Okay! I will quickly add that to my 'to-do list' for the next 50 years!
I would have thought Timon of Athens would be a better choice but I’ll take Henry Higgins. He does, however, lack my rudeness.Hence, the 'on a good day' comment, which I am sure are not many.

Don't really see you as Timon... But how about Ebenezer Scrooge? At least there is still a little hope there!

RobinHood3000> Walter Mitty from The Secret Life of Walter Mitty by James Thurber. Guess it is obvious; no explanations are needed! :p

Virgil - Albus Dumbledore from HP series

Never read HP, so I looked up Dumbledore. Thank you, Pensy. I'm honored with the compliment. I think of you as Maisie in Henry James's, What Maisie Knew, a precocious girl who's smart enough to figure out all sorts of stuff.

I think of Unnambale as T.S. Eliot, only with different politics. ;)

This one is a bit of a cheat but here’s Rachel in Adrian Mitchell’s poem The Castaways or Vote for Caliban. Obviously, she’s Mary. I won't assign names to the others - it might offend. :D I will, however, say that Xamonas has a botanical bent. ;) I suppose it's a lot less painful than a bent botanical.

The Castaways or Vote for Caliban

The Pacific Ocean-
A blue demi-globe.
Islands like punctuation marks.

A cruising airliner,
Passengers unwrapping pats of butter.
A hurricane arises,
Tosses the plane into the sea.

Five of them, flung on to an island beach,
Survived.

Tom the reporter.
Susan the botanist.
Jim the high-jump champion.
Bill the carpenter.
Mary the eccentric widow.

Tom the reporter sniffed out a stream of drinkable water.
Susan the botanist identified a banana tree.
Jim the high-jump champion jumped up and down and gave
them each a bunch.
Bill the carpenter knocked up a table for their banana supper.
Mary the eccentric widow buried the banana skins,
But only after they had asked her twice.
They all gathered sticks and lit a fire.
There was an incredible sunset.

Next morning they held a committee meeting.
Tom, Susan, Jim and Bill
Voted to make the best of things.
Mary, the eccentric widow, abstained.

Tom the reporter killed several dozen wild pigs.
He tanned their skins into parchment
And printed the Island News with the ink of squids.

Susan the botanist developed new strains of banana
Which tasted of chocolate, beefsteak, peanut butter,
Chicken and bootpolish.

Jim the high-jump champion organized organized games
Which he always won easily.

Bill the carpenter constructed a wooden water wheel
And converted the water's energy into electricity.
Using iron ore from the hills, he constructed lampposts.

They all worried about Mary, the eccentric widow,
Her lack of confidence and her -
But there wasn't time to coddle her.

The volcano erupted, but they dug a trench
And diverted the lava into the sea
Where it formed a spectacular pier.
They were attacked by pirates but defeated them
With bamboo bazookas firing
Sea-urchins packed with home-made nitroglycerine.
They gave the cannibals a dose of their own medicine
And survived an earthquake thanks to their skill in jumping.

Tom had been a court reporter
So he became the magistrate and solved disputes.
Susan the Botanist established
A university which also served as a museum.
Jim the high-jump champion
Was put in charge of law-enforcement -
jumped on them when they were bad.
Bill the carpenter built himself a church,
Preached there every Sunday.

But Mary the eccentric widow ...
Each evening she wandered down the island's main street,
Past the Stock Exchange, the Houses of Parliament,
The prison and the arsenal.
Past the Prospero Souvenir Shop,
Past the Robert Louis Stevenson Movie Studios,
Past the Daniel Defoe Motel
She nervously wandered and sat on the end of the pier of lava,

Breathing heavily,
As if at a loss,
As if at a lover,
She opened her eyes wide
To the usual incredible sunset.

I think I've already mentioned that I'm allergic to bananas.

 + = :rage:

I'm surprised I didn't remember that. I remember all your other leading characteristics.

Adilyoussef - Faramir, of Tolkien's LOTR fame. There are many things to be praised in Faramir - he sees a good that others (even Boromir, his own brother) despise, in their grasping for what seems good, and he arrives at the good that gleamed in his eye humbly cast downward in higher contemplation. That kind of good has a lasting benefit that outlives the scramble for the ring.

RobinHood3000 - Boromir, of the same books. Though Boromir ran forth with all his passion before counting the costs, he was still a noble-hearted champion for the cause of others, and proved a hero after his disillusionment.

Amra - Sir Robin Hood of Loxley, as the accumulated image spun through generations of ever newer versions of his legend came to finally present him. As he ever had his eye on those he felt unjust, to even the scales, and turn his environment upside down, I see you as being just as vigilant for oppurtune moments to make your impact and leave an imprint.

Theshizznigg - Pippin of LOTR. Are you a tween?

CC - Elizabeth Bennet. You are, i'll admit, my favourite lit netter and Elizabeth Bennet is a strong, amazing woman. You just remind me of her.
