I am trying to find a passage from Dickens...I think it is from David Copperfield. The main character is wandering the streets hoping to see a girl he is in love with. A friend of the girl, who is lodging with her, then sees him and invites him to meet her. They are introduced; they walk in the garden and hold conversation. I think the girl has a dog. If you know which novel and which chapter this occurs in I would be grateful if you would let me know. Please email [email protected]. Thank you.

The book is indeed David Copperfield. His love interest is Dora Spenlow, the friend is Miss Julia Mills, and the dog is Jip. There are numerous chapters in the book about David's love and devotion of Dora, but I think you are looking for Chapter 26. David is invited to the Spenlow estate for Dora's birthday, whom he has not met before. He meets Dora in the gardens who is temporarily free of her 'confidential friend' Miss Murdstone.
