i love oscar wilde because he's philisophical, but also so funny. he manages to satirize nearly everything but makes you think, too. i'm addicted to the Portrait of Dorian Grey . . . what other books/plays of his are particularly good to read?

From his plays "The Importance of being Earnest", "Lady Windermere's fan" and "Salome" come to my mind immedeately

I admire Oscar Wilde for numerous reasons. His sardonic farce, wit, and intelligence. I also find his personal life appealing - and that simply adds to my appreciation.

I love his 'Decay of Lying'; incredibly witty, he is, when he makes Vivian convince Cyril that even nature imitates art. Even as you think that he is taking the proposition (Great art can be created only through great lies) to an illogical extreme, he backs-up his argument with cogent and witty reasons.

Some of his stories, those categorized as childrens' stories, are absurd (probably children enjoy it) and some others are thoroughly boring, but these exceptions in no way diminish my opinion that he was, indeed, a master of wit.

His plays are good, but I wouldn't say they are exceptional.

oscar wilde is a legend in my eyes purely because of the amazing paradoxs he manages to interwine into dic o dorian gray. if ur reading that at the moment make sure u read the preface as well or go on line......its imply hilarious the way he retorts to the critics of his book......the man had a wish....and that was to be different.......mission acomplished!

Great Writer, few are so guilty of "style of substance" sin without damaging much himself.
However his quotings, etc are just propaganda. His aesthetic and critic sense is all that matters. In my opinion his best writing, more mature and with perfect balance between his poetry, style and literature are his faery tales like the Happy Prince and The Nightingale and the Rose.
