Something I found of particular interest when reading Frankenstein is the philosophical debate Shelley appears to have had with herself while writing it. Throughout the book, and it is especially evident in the last few chapters, Victor moves between a deontological and utilitarian ethical worldview. Ultimately he settles on a humanistic utilitarianism rather than his original selfish utilitarian stance, and he makes that transition through realizing a deontological absolutism. Any thoughts?
