Ki ora people,

I am from New Zealand Aoteroa - 'land of the long white cloud' currently residing in a rather wintry cool Melbourne, Australia.(today at least) I have a copy of Uncle Toms Cabin by H.Beecher Stowe that I think everybody read growing up in the olden days or if you are around 50 something today. This edition I have has full page illustrations by George Soper scattered through the book.It also has an inscription on the inside front cover which is dated Xmas 1919. Unfortunately there are no dates of publishing alongside the printers name to tell me when this particular edition was released.
Does anyone out there think it could have some value?? or failing that give me information about who I can ask??

Cheers
Eve

Hello, eve, welcome to the Literature Network.
Firstly, you made a good choice in reading Uncle Tom's Cabin (a true classic!), but it seems difficult to determine the value of a 1919 (or earlier) copy. The first copy published in 1853 (http://www.online-literature.com/stowe/), but with the illustrations, and if it appears in fairly decent condition, I have no doubt it carries some monetary worth among bookstores, libraries, and antique shops.
Good luck!

Hello eve

I did a google for "antique books" and ebay comes up first but the following link shows you prices for Uncle Tom's Cabin, also listed on ebay.

An 1852 edition is listed at US$202.50 :)

Wow..that expensive (USD 200 something) ?

Welcome on board Eve. And eventhough I have only seen NZ from pictures, it sure is a very beautiful country. And those Maori's tattoo patterns are amazing...
