his i'm new to this site. i'm studyin the peom of emily dickinson for my leaving cert but my teacher never really went through it. i was wonderin if some here would br able to tell me what this poem is all about. i understand a little bit about it but i would lik to know what other people thought about it to and what she is actually talkin about.

A narrow fellow in the grass
Occasionally rides;
You may have met him,--did you not,
His notice sudden is.

The grass divides as with a comb,
A spotted shaft is seen;
And then it closes at your feet
And opens further on.

He likes a boggy acre,
A floor too cool for corn.
Yet when a child, and barefoot,
I more than once, at morn,

Have passed, I thought, a whip-lash
Unbraiding in the sun,--
When, stooping to secure it,
It wrinkled, and was gone.

Several of nature's people
I know, and they know me;
I feel for them a transport
Of cordiality;

But never met this fellow,
Attended or alone,
Without a tighter breathing,
And zero at the bone

i know it is about nature and a certain snake.

Wow, I think the poem is beautiful, but I have never read it and do not understand it at once.
Your explanation that this poem describes a rarely seen snake (she alone can see it, other lovers of nature not?) sounds very plausible.

If I come across some explanation I will write it here..

Oh, wait, check out this website: http://www.cswnet.com/~erin/ed10.htm
I hope that helps a little..

It's really just about her and a snake. Just keep those two things in mind while reading it thoughtfully at least 5 to 10 times.
