I don't think I've ever been so bored. I'd rather stare at a wall blankly for the time it took me to read the novel. Granted, it was surprising and shocking for its time, but today it means nothing. The part that truly kept me from enjoying any part of it was the fact that nothing happens. Sure she discovers herself, but she doesn't put it to any use. So many books of that time period are like this. If you want to discover something about society and women's need for liberation, then here you go. Otherwise, I wouldn't spend the afternoon reading it.

Sure she discovers herself

Does she? The way I read the ending, Catherine's life is summed up by a 'morsel of fancy work'. Her disillusion with humanity, male and female, is complete. What 'she discovers' seems little to her liking.
