The book does indeed deal with modern governments, but you must take into account the 500 or so years of difference. Would Hitler have won WW2 if he hadn't allied with Japan, and Japan hadn't attacked the US?<br><br>One of Machiavelli's rules, is that you can never and should never depend on forces from anyone other than you own, and you should always be sure you can defend yourself from any attack.
