I just finished this book yesterday. Despite the fact that I would have enjoyed it far more if I hadn't been reading it with a book report in mind, I found the novel interesting and of course very well written. Although I didn't really like Isabel (for an "Independent" woman she seems very much less so than Henrietta) I was drawn in by the other characters. The prose was muddy in places, but after slogging through it I could look back and say "Oh! Wow, there was a pretty good point to all that after all." <br> This is a must-read for anyone who is interested in how women are portrayed in literature. I would recommend it to anyone with the patience to read it.
